When you're in meetings this week or in your next one-on-one's with your team members, remember that when someone is speaking their subconscious motive is usually one of two things:

  1. Goal Achieving: seeking solutions, proactive, aiming to make progress with you
  2. Anxiety Relieving: seeking reassurance, protecting their ego, reactive, need something from you

Knowing and being aware of motive will help you move the conversation where it needs to go.
